Along the coastline, the golden beaches and dunes seem never-ending. Protected nature reserves alternate with harbours and resort towns. The closest resort towns are La Grande-Motte with its chic beach pavilions and Le Grau du Roi, which has one of the most active fishing harbours in the Mediterranean Sea. Just beyond Le Grau de Roi lies a beautiful broad sandy beach that stretches for 18 kilometres: Plage de l’Espiguette.

Camargue
DISTANCE FROM OUR MAS: 75 KM
The Camargue is a marshy area adjoining the Mediterranean Sea, known for its wild grey horses and pink flamingos. Vineyards and rice paddies are tended there and salt is harvested.

Parc National des Cévennes is a huge, beautiful, wild and untouched nature reserve covering more than 90,000 hectares. This unusual park is situated in the Cévennes, just beyond Anduze. A Feng Shui garden, a Laotian village and even a labyrinth form the backdrop for 159 varieties of bamboo, rare plants and unusual trees. This park is unique in Europe and certainly worth a visit.
The park is easily accessed by car, but it’s even more fun to take the train à vapeur from Anduze to Saint Jean du Gard. This steam train stops right in front of the Bambouseraie.

Markets
The famous Saturday market in Uzès is spread throughout the centre. Not just on Place aux Herbes, but also in the side streets and on the boulevard, it is full of stalls selling a wide range of products, naturally including regional products such as honey, goat’s cheese, fresh herbs, olive oil and wine.
A smaller organic market takes place on Wednesday mornings. Many vide greniers (car boot sales), puces (flea markets) and brocantes (antique/curiosity markets) are also held in the region.
